China not the biggest exporting market for US agro exporters anymore
According to recent report issued from the States Congress, China has dropped to 3rd place as an export destination for US agricultrue products in the past 2018, from 1st place as in 2017, with a total affected product worth of 20 billion USD.
5 hours before I’m writing this post, China-US has just finished the latest round of negotiation. Result has been kept sealed but the negotiation last one more day than expected, so there must be something important agreed or, or maybe not… but another long fight?? Donald Trump seemed to be positive though on twitter.
Chilean and Argentinian take the chance to go
US exported 19% of it’s cherries to China in 2017, and now it’s a good chance for new marketers to come in filling the gap, while China is also seeking replacement.
Argentina seized the opportunity, their first 8 containers of cherries has departed this week to catch the Chinese New Year event, a month after related agreement signed between the 2 countries.
Furthermore, thousands of containers of cherries from Chile are arriving China by the same time. Chile is building a strong market image in China now on cherries after years of marketing. Tomorrow (Jan10th, 2019), the Chile cherry exporters will launch an event in Shanghai, to create a longest lineup of fruit (cherry?) for a Guinnes World Records. Sounds wei…wonderful.
Ok now question is, do you think Chile and Argentina will take this 19% cakes from the table?
